17 May Table Tennis Teams reach the Leinster Schools Cup Final
For the third year in a row our table tennis teams have reached the final of the under 13 section of the Leinster Schools Cup. The lads beat the tournament favourites, Guardian Angels 4-3 in the semi-final. This was some feat as the opposing team had an Irish international player and the top under 12 player in Ireland on their team. The determination and ability of the boys shone through as they fought to retain the trophy that we won last year.
The team was then defeated by Blackrock College in the final. The lads came runners up in the Division 1 league to the same opponents. We salute the team and look forward to seeing them move on to the under 15 age group competitions next year. The Cup team featured Ross McGarry, DJ Ennis, Sean Devlin and Conor Quigley. Adam Flanagan, Cian Stenson and Conor Fallon played effectively for the team in the league during the year.
Our beginners team reached the division 4 final. The team was Callum Byrne, Glen Lynch, Thomas Lysaght and Issak Djebari, the lads had a great debut year and are eager to keep improving.
We have over thirty players registered with the Irish Table Tennis Association in the school and we look forward to entering a strong under 15 team in competition next year which will be a combination of the 2011 and 2012 successful teams. We anticipate having a strong under 13 team in the school, most of them coming from Ballyroan Boys, the top feeder school of table tennis in our area.
