  • Green School Programme

    environmental awareness

Water Theme Coláiste Éanna is continuing to strive to be more environmentally friendly as it works towards gaining its third Green Flag in relation to conserving water.  All public buildings, including schools, currently pay annual water charges, which given the size of a typical school population can prove quite substantial.  In order to ascertain where exactly the water charges were accruing from, and in the hope of spotting potential ways to reduce the cost of same, a water usage survey was carried out in each of the three school buildings and sports hall.  The results of this survey resulted in an inventory of the number of sinks, toilet cisterns, urinals, showers and dishwashers that were in use throughout the school. • Past Pupils Evening

    Past Pupils

The Open Evening for Past Pupils of Coláiste Éanna was a great success. Principal Brendan Mc Cauley welcomed some 60 past pupils and 9 former teachers back to their old school. He invited all present to feel free to  visit all the facilities on campus, to take a prospectus and particularly to consider the possibility of establishing a steering group who would build upon this event. He stressed that the purpose of the event was to draw disparate groups of Past Pupils together and was not about fund raising and that Past Pupils would never be approached for funds in the future.

A vibrant Past Pupils Association is vital for any school community. At best it allows for old boys...

  • The Br. Dooley Invitational Shield Competition

    Chess

The Br. Dooley Invitational Chess competition took place in the school library on Tuesday last. It was well oversubscribed by club members, so the final number of competitors had to be reduced down to 16. This enabled us to run four rounds of twenty minutes per player. The first round started with a heavy and somewhat unfair draw for the junior players against the senior members of both the A and B teams. The senior players took no prisoners and simply waded through the valiant efforts of their opponents with the single exception of Conor Dunne. Conor stood firm and resolute playing with a determination the likes of which you would only see in a young life’s struggle against nature’s harshness....
